How To Use
Step 1: Unbox and Charge the ScanSense Pen
- Unpack the Device: Remove the ScanSense Pen from its packaging. Check for included accessories like a USB charging cable, user manual, protective case, and screen protector.
- Charge the Pen: Connect the pen to a power source using the provided USB cable. Plug one end into the pen’s charging port (typically located under the clip or on the side) and the other into a USB port (e.g., on a computer or wall adapter). Charge until fully charged, which may take 1-2 hours. A fully charged pen ensures uninterrupted use.
Step 2: Turn On the ScanSense Pen
- Power On: Press and hold the power button for a few seconds. The pen should display a "Welcome" text to let you know it is turning on.
Step 3: Connect to Wi-Fi (Optional for Some Features)
- Access Settings: Navigate to the settings menu on the pen’s HD screen
- Connect to a Network: Select your Wi-Fi network, enter the password, and wait for the connection to establish. As a reminder, the pen does not work on 5G networks. Wi-Fi is required for features like online search and AI assistance, but the pen supports offline translation for 60+ languages and can scan text without an internet connection.
Step 4: Scan Text with the ScanSense Pen
- Open the SmartAI App: Once the pen is turned on, locate and open the "SmartAI" app on the pen’s HD screen. This app is the main interface for scanning and accessing the pen’s AI features. Tap the app icon to launch it.
- Prepare to Scan: In the SmartAI app, press the little button in the bottom left of the screen to get ready to scan. This button activates the scanning mode.
- Keyboard settings: if you would like to use voice or keyboard instead of scanning, just tap the icons also in the bottom of the screen to toggle them.
- Hold the Pen Correctly: Grip the pen comfortably, similar to how you’d hold a regular pen. The scanning tip should be facing down toward the text.
-
Scan Text: Place the pen’s scanning tip on the page, press the scan button (likely on the side of the pen), and move the pen slowly across a line of printed text. The pen will capture the text and display it on its HD screen or read it aloud if the text-to-speech function is enabled.
- Tip: For best results, scan on a flat surface and move the pen steadily to ensure accurate text recognition.
Step 6: Use the AI Feature to Answer Questions
- Scan a Question: Scan a printed question (e.g., from a textbook) using the method in Step 4. The pen’s AI will process the text and provide an answer, which may be displayed on the screen or spoken aloud.
- Voice Input Option: If you don’t have a printed question, you can use the voice recording feature. Press the voice record button (check the manual for its location), speak your question clearly, and the AI will respond. This is great for custom requests like simplifying explanations or asking follow-up questions.
Step 7: Record Voice Notes
- Activate Voice Recording: Press the voice recording button to start capturing audio. The pen supports voice recording, which is useful for taking notes during lectures, meetings, or interviews.
- Save and Playback: Stop the recording by pressing the button again. You can playback recordings through the pen’s screen interface or through a hard drive.
Step 8: Use Additional Features
- Text-to-Speech: If you have reading difficulties, enable the text-to-speech function to have scanned text read aloud. This can be toggled in the settings.
- Music Playback and File Storage: The pen has a built-in camera, Bluetooth, music playback, and file storage capabilities. Use the screen interface to access these features, such as playing music or storing scanned files.
- AI Credits: Note that the pen comes with 2,500 AI credits/uses for features like answering questions. These credits should last a long time, but you can purchase more if needed.
Step 9: Turn Off and Store the Pen
- Power Off: Press and hold the power button to turn off the pen. This helps conserve battery life.
- Store Safely: Place the pen in a protective case or a safe location to avoid damage to the scanning tip or screen.
Troubleshooting Tips
- Pen Won’t Turn On: Ensure the pen is charged. If it still doesn’t work, contact customer support at info@scansensepen.com.
- Scanning Issues: If the pen isn’t scanning accurately, ensure the text is clear, the surface is flat, and you’re moving the pen at a steady pace.
- Wi-Fi Connection Problems: Restart the pen and re-enter the Wi-Fi credentials. Use a mobile hotspot if needed for online features.
